Free Dermatology Claims Audit

We read a sample of your recent dermatology claims against the documentation behind them, and report what we find: coding gaps, denial root causes, underpayments against contracted rates, and how much of it is still recoverable. You keep the findings whether or not you work with us.

What the audit actually examines

  • A sample of recent dermatology claims read against the clinical documentation behind each one.
  • Excision sizing: whether the excised diameter was taken from the operative note or from the pathology specimen, which systematically undersizes the code.
  • Lesion counts on destruction and biopsy claims, reconciled against what the note documents.
  • Closure classification — simple, intermediate, complex — against the layers and repair length recorded.
  • Modifier 25 and 59 application, tested against whether the documentation stands on its own.
  • Denial history grouped by root cause rather than by payer, so the upstream behavior is visible.
  • Payment variance against your contracted allowables, to surface underpayments that posted silently.
  • Aged A/R composition and how much of it is still inside appeal and filing windows.

What you get back

A written findings document listing each issue found, the claims it appeared on, the estimated financial effect, and what would need to change to prevent it — split between what the billing team fixes and what needs a documentation change at the provider. You keep it whether or not you work with us.

We will also tell you where we found nothing. An audit that reports problems on every line is selling, not auditing, and a practice already billing well deserves to hear that.

How it runs, and how long it takes

  • Initial call, around 30 minutes, to understand your specialty mix, EHR and payer profile.
  • A business associate agreement is executed before any protected health information changes hands.
  • Read-only access to a claim sample, or a de-identified export if you prefer to start that way.
  • Findings delivered within five to ten business days depending on sample size.
  • A review call to walk the findings, with no obligation to proceed.

Sending information safely

Do not send protected health information through the form on this page or by ordinary email. The form is for contact details and context only. Once a business associate agreement is in place we will provide a secure route for clinical and claims data.

Frequently asked questions

Is the audit genuinely free?

Yes. There is no fee and no obligation to engage us afterwards. You keep the findings document either way.

Do you need access to patient records?

We need to read claims against the documentation that supports them, which means clinical notes for the sampled encounters. That happens only after a business associate agreement is executed, and we can start from a de-identified sample if you prefer.

Will our current biller find out?

Not from us. The engagement is with your practice and we do not contact your incumbent vendor.

How large a sample do you need?

Enough to be representative rather than anecdotal — typically a few hundred claims across your provider mix, including surgical and pathology claims rather than office visits alone.

What if we are already billing well?

Then the report says so, and it names the areas we tested to reach that conclusion. That is a useful document to hold regardless of who does your billing.
