Coding

HCPCS Level II

Codes for supplies, drugs and services not described by CPT, including injectables used in dermatology.

What it means in dermatology

Biologics, intralesional agents and some wound care supplies bill through HCPCS with units expressed in the code's stated dosage increment. Unit math is the usual failure point.

Wastage of a single-use vial may be separately reportable with the JW modifier when the payer allows it and the discarded amount is documented.

Why it matters to your revenue

Unit errors on high-cost biologics produce either large underpayments or refund exposure.
